Natalja Kalasnikova (b. 1956) is a contemporary Latvian artist. She specializes in watercolor landscapes, cityscapes and still life.
She got medical degree in 1979 and for several decades worked as specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. She continues to practice medicine in outpatient setting.
Untimely and sudden loss of a very close relative hurt her deeply, and for many years she lived in a state of bereavement. But maybe it caused her spiritual transformation and sharpened senses, evoking ability to absorb visual impression as well as develop artistic imagination.
She started painting with watercolor in 2022 and it became her real passion. She compares painting with water and color to surgery, as she finds some common features between both, i.e. good planning ahead, precision, speed of reactions, readiness for some unpredictability, and avoiding unnecessary interventions. As a result, painting helped to her loss acceptance and emotional healing.
A self-taught beginner artist she started learning painting by trial-and-error. She studies the works of contemporary artists through internet platforms and books. In 2022 she found Artefacto School and became its student. She has joined Latvian watercolor society in 2024.
She resides in the city and sometimes travels around the world, that helps her to collects visual and emotional impressions for future artistic work.
Her paintings can be found in private collections.
She currently lives in Riga, Latvia.
